Brisbane’s punk-rock powerhouse, The Gifthorse are officially back in action with a brand new album due out Aug 22 via Poison City. Titled ‘Give My Body To This Town’, the new record was tracked and mixed at The Shed Studio (Violent Soho, Screamfeeder) with Mark Perry and mastered by Alan Douches at WWSM, NY.
Having disbanded in 2010, The Gifthorse reunited on several occasions before officially announcing their reformation at last year’s Poison City Ten Year Anniversary Shows, also coinciding with the release of their ‘Collection' LP (Poison City).
‘Give My Body To This Town' takes up right where their cult classic 2009 EP 'From The Floor Up' left off; an infectious blast of 90's influenced skate-rock, huge droning guitar melodies and the unmistakable every-man lyrics of charismatic frontman, Shane Collins.
An awesome mix of local supports have been announced for Violent Soho’s massive July tour. The Smith Street Band and Luca Brasi will both be joining Violent Soho on select dates and opening bands include White Walls, Freak Wave, Grim Fandango, Paper Arms, Roku Music, Ceres, High Tension and more. All shows are now sold-out, except Thu July 17th at Hi Fi Bar Melbourne. Last remaining tickets for this show on sale via Oztix.
Following their recent sold out Australian tour and having just returned from an extensive adventure through the UK and Europe, our road weary wanderers, The Smith Street Band have announced plans to hit the studio to record album number three.
The band has revealed the new album will be recorded at Melbourne’s iconic Sing Sing Studios as well as a secluded location in the Otway Ranges. The follow up to 2013’s five track EP Don’t Fuck With Our Dreams will be recorded with Matt Voigt and Sam Johnson, and produced by Jeff Rosenstock, frontman of now defunct US act Bomb The Music Industry!
Relentless touring has seen The Smith Street Band slowly winning over the world, with the past few years seeing the band play all over Australia, China, Europe and the United States. The most recent trip to Europe included sold out shows throughout the UK and a mainstage appearance at Belgium’s Groezrock festival. Having just landed back on home soil The Smith Street Band play a run of sold out Australian dates with Brisbane mates Violent Soho prior to commencing work on the new album.
We’re delighted to announce The Smith Street Band’s forthcoming album will be out via Poison City Records later this year. Stay tuned for details!

Heading to Australia for the first time this August as part of Poison City’s annual Weekender Fest, Michigan’s fuzz-pop darlings PITY SEX have also announced a short run of East Coast dates. They’ll be supported on all dates by Byron Bay/Melbourne scuzz-rock trio POSTBLUE
Hailing from Ann Arbor, MI, Pity Sex specialize in foggy, lo-fi noise pop and fuzzed-out, blown-speaker walls of sound, all with their own midwestern emo subtleties. Situated somewhere at the convergence of Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth and Hum, the bands quietest moments are defeated reflections with plaintive instrumentals. It’s loudest are desperate cries washed in searing, reverby overdrive.

A tsunami of head-nodding scuzzy rock, Freak Wave’s debut long-player, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, blends myriad influences and decades of musicianship into one hell of a racket. Recorded in the familiar surrounds of the Reverence Hotel and mixed by their good friend Michael ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald (The Smith Street Band) ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ follows on from the band’s 2013 ’Self Titled’ 12” / EP which saw Freak Wave score a swag of recent supports slots alongside the likes of Sebadoh, Lemuria and Cheap Girls.
