Now in it’s fourth year, our annual Weekender fest is set to converge on Melbourne again this September for 3 days of friendship, punk-rock, bar hopping, hugs and high fives! Taking place at The Tote on Friday September 14th, Corner Hotel on Saturday September 15th and new venue The Liberty Hotel on Sunday September 16th, this year we’ve reached far and wide to assemble the event’s biggest line-up yet!

Heading up the festivities is none other than New York post-hardcore supergroup Rival Schools, returning to Australia for the first time since the release of their 2011 comeback album ‘Pedals’. Also making the journey down under for the first time is Philadelphia’s Restorations, who’s recent ‘S/t’ debut continues to win the hearts of ‘older punks’ everywhere, their music being described as everything from angsty 90′s indie-punk, to shoegaze, to a melding of Lucero and Explosions In The Sky.

They’ll be joined by The Smith Street Band, A Death In The Family (Final Show!), Extortion, Luca Brasi, I-Exist, Hoodlum Shouts, Paper Arms, Jamie Hay, Grim Fandango, Milhouse, Jen Buxton, Between The Devil & The Deep, Outsiders (NZ), Let Me Down Jungleman, Chinese Burns Unit (members of Frenzal Rhomb, Lawnsmell, The Optionals), Toy Boats, Lincoln Le Fevre, Run Squirrel and White Walls, with more acts still to be announced!

Full line-ups for each venue will be announced in coming days and tickets go on sale Monday May 28th from Poison City Records, Corner Hotel Box Office and The Tote. Once again there will be a limited Early Bird allocation of 3-Day Weekender Passes, giving access to all shows at a discounted rate. For more details and regular updates, head over to our WEEKENDER page or follow on Twitter HERE.

Both bands have kept themselves busy since their recent releases, Paper Arms picking up a number of high profile supports both at home in Adelaide and along the East Coast of Australia on the back of their 2010 release ‘Days Above Ground‘ (Poison City) release, and most recently a track on Shuffle & Scrape: A Tribute To Blueline Medic. The Outsiders have been spreading their wings regularly throughout Europe and the US sharing stages with bands like Cobra Skulls, Nothington, Old Man Markley and look forward to their return to Australian soil armed with their still fresh ‘Shallow Graves‘ EP.

In the space of two years, The Smith Street Band have have gone from playing house parties, shop fronts, storm drains and everywhere in between to being one of the most energised and talked about punk-rock bands in Australia. Driven by a fierce D.I.Y spirit, a lust for touring and armed with their revered debut ‘No One Gets Lost Anymore’, the Melbourne 5 piece have hardly taken a break from criss-crossing the country since mid 2011.

This week we’re delighted to announce that The Smith Street Band are preparing to enter the studio again, commencing tracking for album number two later in May. Their swag of new material will be recorded by Sam Johnson at Three Phase Studio and mixed at Sing Sing by Matt Voigt (Midnight Oil, The Dirty Three, Paul Kelly). The album is set for release via Poison City Records later in 2012.

Following a month of sold-out residency shows at The Old Bar in Melbourne, The Smith Street Band head back out on the road this week supporting Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls (UK) on their Australian tour. They have also just been announced alongside the likes of Lagwagon, Braid and Polar Bear Club on this year’s The Fest 11 held annually late October in Gainesville, FL (USA).
