THE SMITH STREET BAND continue their 2012 touring frenzy later in February when they head out for a lap of the country once again – this time teaming up with BOMB THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! (USA)….

Two party-starting (or finishing?) bands firmly entrenched in their respective DIY scenes; and a mutual enjoyment of mock meat and the odd beverage…

BTMI; notorious for raucous shows, supplying paint and stencils for fans to create their own merch, band members spread out all over the continent, and constantly gathering new ones wherever they go. Blending several musical styles as diverse as Ska through to Hardcore, songwriter and producer Jeff Rosenstock travels to Australia to join one of Australia’s most talked about DIY punk band of the moment The Smith Street Band.

After their album ‘No one Gets Lost Anymore’ was voted album of the year by Bombshellzine, there’s been a flurry of excitement and anticipation around the band. With another album being recorded in early 2012, expect to hear some new stuff on this tour…..

Hoodlum Shouts deliver their first full-length dose of brooding sing-alongs with their debut album ‘Young Man Old Man’ set for joint release on Poison City and HelloSquare Recordings on March 28.

Recorded by Matt Voigt (The Nation Blue, Midnight Oil, The Dirty Three), Canberra’s Hoodlum Shouts continues down the path of big bold simplicity and lush melodies, while balancing the needle somewhere between melancholy and uplifting. Musically ‘Young Man Old Man’ is a natural progression from their 2009 ‘Horses and Human Hands’ EP, expanding the possibilities of modern Australian alt-country-rock, while lyrically exploring the age-old themes of history, our past and present, and the uncomfortable realisation that some things never change.

“Take The Nation Blue and The Drones, put them together, and you get Hoodlum Shouts; punk rock fuelled by the same kind of colonial fervour of those aforementioned bands. Superb stuff!” – Dom Alessio TRIPLE J

“It’s rare that an unknown band’s CD works its way across your desk and makes an instant impact. Rare, but so very rewarding when it does. So it was with Hoodlum Shouts, a four-piece rock band from Canberra. The band summon the tense ghosts of Midnight Oil and The Dead Kennedys as much as evoke more recent locals like The Nation Blue, The Drones and curiously—but with great affect—early Art of Fighting. There’s a rural melancholy to their angst, one that has room for harmonica, field recordings and sparse, hanging chords, as much as powerhouse drumming, thundering riffs and the taught, captivating, wobbly voice of Sam Leyshon.” – Marcus Teague TheVine.com.au
